Gilsonite is brand name for the mineral known as asphaltum, uintaite, Natural bitumen, mineral tar, mineral pitch, mineral bitumen, bitumen powder, drilling mud, or uintahite, which is found in commercial quantities only in the Utah of USA and Kermanshah of Iran. This unique mineral is used in more than 160 products, primarily in dark-colored printing inks and paints, oil well drilling muds and cements, asphalt modifiers, foundry sands additives and a wide variety of chemical products.
Gilsonite is compatible with microcrystalline and paraffin wax, petroleum resin and oil, rosins, tall oil pitch, vegetable oil (linseed, soya, etc), petroleum process oils and petroleum asphalt.
As the world's major supplier of Gilsonite products, we market many different grades of Gilsonite and Gilsonite resins, each with properties tied to a specific end-use. We have extensive experience in shipping direct from Mine Site and through Vessel, truck and train also small quantity by airplane in over 50 countries around the world.
From our plants we provide customers with a dependable supply of made-to-spec products in a variety of packaging options, including our refined blown bitumen also mixed Gilsonite with bitumen 60/70 and obtained through a proprietary solvent extraction process. Our products are carefully screened for mesh, dried to controlled moisture specifications from around 1.5%, classified by particle size, held in large concrete silos until ready for final packaging, and stored in a covered warehouse prior to shipment. Our labs conduct extensive quality controls throughout the production process and every order is shipped with an individual certificate of analysis that guarantees its adherence to specifications.
