Product Description

he chickpea pulse is a legume of the family Fabaceae(pea/bean family). This protein rich pulse is also known as garbanzo bean and chana (particularly in India). They have a capacity to stand in strong drought conditions and dont require to be fed with nitrogen fertilizers. There are mainly two types of chickpea produced i.e. Desi and Kabuli. They can be separated on the basis of seed size, colour and taste.

1) Desi Chickpeas (Black chickpeas)

Desi chickpeas are split peas that are small in size and have thick seed coat. They have remarkably higher concentration of fibres and antioxidants than other types and are generally used to make chana dal.

2) Kabuli Chickpeas

Kabuli chickpeas are cream coloured, fairly smooth and are larger in size with a thinner seed coat. Chole-bhature is the famous Indian cuisine made from Kabuli Chickpeas. They are also commonly found at salad bars and in canned products in other countries.

India is the worlds largest producer of chickpeas with *3 lac tones of pulse produced annually; which is around *0% of worlds total population.

Further, following is the list of major importing countries of chickpea from India:

 Pakistan
 Spain
 Algeria
 Malaysia
 Turkey
 Russia
 Vietnam
 Yemen
 Tunisia

These figures clearly highlight the importance of this pulse not only within the households but also to the overall agriculture industry of India. With the depreciating value of Indian rupee and growing demand, the export trend of chickpea will only grow with time.
