Product Description

Exceptional  piano not for the mark, but for the wood that was used. Mainly being made of Coromandel, this piano is considered one of the most prized works by this maker we have come by. During the Victorian era in England and around the world, furniture makers built some of the finest pieces possible using this highly sought after wood, making it in such demand that they over forested and it is now extinct.  This wood was traded like gold and diamonds. The sad part is that the archives for Erard London Pianos has yet still to be found so who made this piano we are not yet sure of. The style of the piano shows elements of Adam style, inlaid various highly exotic woods, such as Bois Rose (Not rose wood but another type of exotic wood) Base of the case in the highly exotic wood of Coromandel, Beautiful bands of ribboned maple, banded again with what is believed to be gaboon ebony, highlighted with Ivory. Corner motifs in inlaid exotic woods. This piano is a fantastic example of some of the finest work in the Victorian Era and even at this time would only be able to be afforded by mostly the upper class homes.

During the reign of Queen Victoria, coromandel was considered one of the most exotic, luxurious, and expensive woods to work with and it was the veneer of choice for some of the finest furniture ever made.

Coromandel wood was sources from India and South East Asia and was an incredibly dense, close grained wood. Visually a more vibrant and figured (patterned) variety from the ebony family, the actual species of coromandel became extinct by the beginning by the beginning of the *0th century.

an definite rarity of its own as well, the piano has its match with the original stool made for the piano. The two making this combo a rarity in art cased pianos today.

Further research is in process as we go along, keep updated with us.
