STEELCOT MG 330
A Magnesite and spirit based dressing for moulds and cores
during casting of Manganese steel.
STEELCOT MG 330 is a basic refractory coating for moulds and
cores during casting of Manganese steel. The moulds can be from
silica, olivine, or chromate sand.
STEELCOT MG 330 contains high quality refractory dead burnt
magnesite with the appropriate binders within Iso-propanol as
solvent. This basic and refractory nature of STEELCOT MG 330
protects the mould from the aggressive attack of Manganese steel,
giving a good surface finish of the casting.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
STEELCOT MG 330 is supplied in a paste form and should be
diluted with Iso-propanol solvent before use. The dilution ratio
depends on the application procedure.
For brush application, a dilution with 15-20% Iso-propanol is
recommended. For spray applications, a dilution with 25%
Iso-propanol is recommended.
After application the dressing should be ignited with a flame.
To avoid solvent loss by evaporation, large moulds or cores should
be dressed in small areas ignited individually.
Allow the coating to burn out and to cool to ambient temperature
before closing and casting, or alternatively close and cast while
still hot: avoid the intermediate situation.
•High solids/ low gas content dressing, utilising ultra modern
suspension and bonding techniques.
•Low gas evolution on casting, which reduces problems of gas
entrapment, blowing, explosion penetration and oxide folding.
•Excellent brushability, even on multiple application on warm
moulds, allowing easy and trouble free use.
•Gives an excellent surface finish and prevents surface defects
in Manganese steel castings.
