Product Description

STEELCOTE ZR **5

A convenient, easy to use dressing of wide application for moulds and cores of all types, but especially silicate and resin bonded varieties.

DESCRIPTION

STEELCOTE ZR **5 is a white, spirit (Iso-propanol) based zircon coating, in almost ready for use slurry form, with excellent brushing and swabbing characteristics. Designed specifically for steel castings of any section thickness, but is equally effective in severe situations involving the whole range of cast irons, copper and nickel base compositions and even the light alloys.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

For most purposes STEELCOTE ZR **5 is almost ready to use form as supplied but some slight dilution may be necessary using Iso-propanol solvent. It may be applied by brush, swab or spray, or cores may be dipped.

STEELCOTE ZR **5 may be used on any substrate that will accept a spirit-based dressing, for any of the conventional cast metals and for both moulds and cores. While it exhibits excellent suspension and anti-settlement properties it should, after transport or long-period standing, be thoroughly mixed before use.

After application the dressing should be ignited. To avoid solvent loss by evaporation, large moulds or cores should be dressed in small areas ignited individually.

Allow the coating to burn out and to cool to ambient temperature before closing and casting, or alternatively close and cast while still hot, avoiding the intermediate situation.

ADVANTAGES

•High solids/ low gas content dressing, utilising ultra modern suspension and bonding techniques.

•Wide flexibility in terms of metal type, casting section and sand bond used.

•Low gas evolution on casting, which reduces problems of gas entrapment, blowing, explosion penetration and oxide folding.

•Excellent brushability, even on multiple application on warm moulds, allowing easy and trouble free use.
