Yellow phosphrus glows in te dark(when exposed to Oxygen), is highly flammable and pyrophoric(self-igniting)upon contact with air as well as toxic(causing severe liver damage on ingestion). Because of pytophoticity, while phosphorus is used as an addivtive in napalm. The odour of combustion of this form as a characteristic garlic smell and very toxic. Therefore it must be stored in water totally.
Appliction: 1. Fertiliser: The dominant application of YP is in fertilisers, which provides phosphate as required for all life and is often a limiting nutrient for crops.
                   2. Metallurgical aspects: Phosphorus is added to metallic copper during its smelting process to react with oxygen present as an impurity in copper and to produce oxygen-free copper or phosphorus-containing copper alloys with a higher thermal and electrical conductivity than normal copper.
                  3.Matches: Phosphorus-contained matches were first produced in ***0s and contained a mixture of white phosphorus, an oxygen-releasing compound (potassium chlorate, lead dioxide or some nitrate) and a binder in their heads.
                  4. Wate softening: It is useful for softening water to enhance the performance of the detergents and to prevent pipe/boiler tube corrosion.
