Molten zinc has strong corrosive characteristics. Ordinary materials dissolve rapidly (a matter of a few days) in molten zinc to create large volumes of dross.

For pumps required to pump molten zinc we use either a high tech metal alloy or surface treated metals. Both have high molten zinc corrosion resistance in the wetted pump components. The material is selected according to need with the pump body and impeller generally produced from corrosion resistant alloy and the torque tube of a suitable torque steel surface treated to give high molten zinc corrosion resistance.
