Infusions of flowers and fruits of black elderberry are used in medicine for colds as a diaphoretic for chronic bronchitis, tonsillitis; as a diuretic - for kidney diseases, and also as a laxative. A decoction of flowers is used externally for skin rashes, conjunctivitis and inflammatory processes to rinse the mouth and throat; in the form of lotions, trays and poultices for hemorrhoids, myositis, joint pain, boils, burns and wounds. In homeopathy, alcoholic essence of leaves and flowers is used for arthritis, rheumatism, fevers, respiratory diseases, bronchial asthma, coronary heart disease, pharyngitis and neuralgia.
