Description

PRILLEX is a powder form explosive (or dry blasting agent) which is composed of Ammonium Nitrate and Fuel Oil (ANFO). It is a blasting agent and therefore not cap-sensitive. For reliable initiation a primer cartridge of a high explosive must be used to reinforce the detonator. The velocity of detonation (VOD) depends on the blast hole diameter and reaches its highest velocity of 4.400 m/sec. in a 250 mm blast hole. The velocity of detonation decreases with the decrease in diameter of the blast hole. When the blast hole diameter is less than 30 mm the detonation will not be stable.

PRILLEX is most suitable in middle and large diameter blast holes under dry conditions. PRILLEX should not be used in damp or wet blast holes as it deteriorates rapidly under such conditions.

Applications: PRILLEX is a bulk blasting agent which is packed in reinforced plastic bags. It can be charged by pouring directly from the bag into vertical downward blast holes, but can also be charged by means of pneumatic chargers including in horizontal or upward holes. Due to the high gas content of PRILLEX, it is well suited for softer fissured sedimentary rocks. In solid hard rocks, a high explosive should be used in the constricted bottom part of the blast hole, but PRILLEX is an excellent explosive in the column part. Prillex is an oxygen-balanced explosive and thus well suited for underground applications.
