Founded in 1958, Tianjin Research and Design Institute of Chemical Industry (TRICI) is one of the earliest and largest comprehensive research institute in China. In Nov. 2006, TRICI was integrated into CNOOC Group.

There are 9 research centers and 3 National New High-Tech Industrialization Bases, covering research and service in inorganic chemistry, industrial water treatment, catalyst and support. TRICI is also home to a few national centers, such as State Research Center for Industrial Water Treatment Engineering and Technology, National Quality Supervision and Test Center for Inorganic Salt Products, Supervision and Test Center for Explosion-Proof Electrical Products of Petroleum & Chemical Industry (PCEC), etc.
