Rainbow trout, carp, crucian carp, perch, roach, sturgeon, pike and
catfish raised in Pertnieki, Latvia, are grown in ponds with clear,
running water. The ponds once used to be dolomite deposits. After
the work in the deposits had been discontinued, the quarries were
filled with water naturally and water reservoirs were formed. Later
they were equipped for fish farming. The ponds are to 10 metres
deep, the quantity of water and the stream are supported by
springs. The trout grow naturally, feeding on both small fish like
crucian carp and ecologically clear fish food produced in
Finland.
