EBay Steps Foot in Russia

At last, Russia has managed to catch the attention and has deemed itself, among the leading American based International Corporation and e-commerce brand eBay, to initiate a launch of a local selling unit after a decade of its existence.

During the speech on new plan, the president of eBay’s operation in Russia Vladimir Dolgov said, “One of eBay’s core differentiators in Russia is that we make it possible for Russians to shop the world. Now, by opening our domestic business, we are enabling Russians to shop their own country, and we’re supporting retailers in their goals to expand in ecommerce.”

However, the vice chairman of eBay expansion in Russia and international trade Wendy Jones also stated that, “We have been very clear – growing our business in Russia is one of our top priorities in eBay’s global expansion efforts.”

This geo expansion is based on phased approach which will allow the low volume retailers such s e5.ru and Wikimart.ru to enroll more than 60,000 products at initial stages and the range will further grow to 2015. Throughout the phase, the local retailers will only be able to get an access for domestic shoppers. The company anticipates commencing the inventory of Russian retailers to universal customer database for the period of 2015.

Before stepping up in the Russian market, the company has already done its homework by initiated with domestic mobile existence, custom branding practices and promotions, a Russian website and effectively manages all the payments and shipping process to avoid any uncertainly that would have hampered the planning execution for the country.
