Agar wood is also known as agar Aloes wood, aloes, aloe wood and aloe in English, agaru in Sanskrit, oudh in Arabic. It is an extremely rare and precious aromatic natural resource which can be used for high quality incense, perfume, and traditional medicines. The Chinese describe its smell as "a sweet, deep but balanced fragrance" and continue to use it in religious and festive celebrations, as do Arabians, Indian and Japanese people. It is considered one of the costliest perfumery raw materials used in high class perfumery and as a fixative, imparting a lasting balsamic odour to the product. Unlike many industrial perfumes, it is suitable for hot climates as the longer you wear it, the better it smells! Hence, it has been rightly called the 'Parent of Perfumes' and 'King of Incence'. Moreover, it has been used in treatment of lung and stomach tumors. It is very useful in nervous disorders digestive, bronchial complaints, smallpox, rheumatism, illness during and after childbirth, spasms in the digestive and respiratory systems, fevers, abdominal pain, asthma, cancer, colic, diarrhoea, nausea, regurgitation, weakness in the elderly, shortness of breath, chills, general pains. Essential Oils extracted from Chitra Nella, Sugandh Mantri, Lemon Grass are used as insecticides, mosquito repellants and fragrance. Different flower oils are used for perfume, fragrance and incenses.
