Product Description

1.0        OBJECTIVE

                      The purpose of this specification is to establish the minimum requirements
                      that a messenger wire must meet to be acceptable to Innove Communications.


           2.0        GENERAL

                      2.1      The messenger wire is intended to support aerial cables and vertical structures used in the telecommunications industry.

                      2.2       The messenger wire shall be of extra high strength grade and shall be based from    ASTM A**5 “Standard Specification for Zinc-Coated Steel Wire Strand”.

                      2.3        The wire strands covered in this specification are commercially known to be 6M, *0M and *6M all of which are seven-wire (*-wire) strand.


           3.0        MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS

                      3.1        The base metal shall be of steel made by the open-heart, basic oxygen, or electric furnace process. It should be of such quality and  coated with zinc, the finished strand and the individual wires shall be of uniform quality and have the properties and characteristics as prescribed in ASTM A**5.

                      3.2         The slab zinc from which the coating is derived, shall be any grade of zinc conforming to ASTM B6 “Specification for Zinc (Slab Zinc)”.

4.0 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Stranding

                                             Unless otherwise specified, the wire strand shall have a left lay. A left lay is defined as a counter-clockwise twist away from the observer.   All wires shall be stranded with uniform
tension. Stranding shall be sufficiently close to ensure no appreciable reduction in diameter when stressed to *0% of
the specified strength.

The type of strand in this specification shall be *-wire strand and shall consist of a center wire with a *-wire layer concentrically twisted around it with a uniform pitch of not more than *6 times the specified nominal diameter of the strand.

All wires in the strand shall lie naturally in their true positions in the completed strand. When the strand is cut the ends shall remain in position or be readily returned by hand and then remain in position. This may be accompanied by any means or process such as pre-forming, post-forming, or form setting.

Joints and Splices

                                           In the *-wire strand,    joints made in individual finished wires shall be acceptable provided there is not more than one joint in any *5.7 m (**0 ft.) section of the completed strand and    the location    of each joint is
marked on the strand with  paint or some distinguishing marks.
