These appear to have been used by the 1st life guard, at least in some orders of dress, at least until ***7, but a new pattern was introduced, perhaps as early as ***5, carried at least by officers of the Royal Horse Guards. Sometimes (and perhaps erroneously) termed the ***4 pattern, it was a Prussian-style Pallasch with fullered straight blade and semi-basket hilt made of scroll-shaped bars with a panel bearing the royal crest (a crowned lion atop a large crown)
