~~The Global Beef Community-Commercial beef farming system is a
breakthrough in both beef farming and community upliftment
solutions, as it both respects and supports traditional African
farming cultures, but uses world-class systems and technologies to
radically improve the quality and breeding performance of cattle by
employing the most modern, organic specialised grasses and farming
techniques, to supply premium quality red meat for local, regional
and/or global markets.
The system consists of managing the growth of a calf by a strictly
controlled free-range feeding process using specialised grasses,
through adulthood, to the abattoir and meat packaging plant. The
system incorporates the potential use of a biodigestor for waste
management and encompasses effective management, staff training
etc.
Global Beef supports the regional rural farmers where they maintain
their herds as they have always done, but Global Beef upgrade their
cattle to top-quality. Key to the model is the commercial aspect,
which uses its profitability to ensure the system is fully
sustainable.
The system uses grant funding together with commercial funding to
sponsor the delivery of premium cows to raise blue-ribbon calves.
Half the calves born are retained by the farmer and the balance
farmed by Global Beef, where a portion of the profits generated is
used to guarantee sustainability of the community breeding model.
The rural farmer can use the proceeds of bullock sales to buy more
cows or as a cash generator.
~~The core of the success of the Global Beef business model rests
in the fact that the Management Team includes experts with several
PhDs, MScs and other agricultural degrees, combined with over **0
years hands-on experience in farming. Their skill set is
transferred to capable individuals at each site, whos training may
be supplemented by university or other studies to develop their own
skill sets.
Global Beef firmly believes in upliftment of the local community to
which Global Beef allocates a further share of the profits.
Management of the business is done by Global Beef and its appointed
consultants. Even though this is essentially a commercial business
model, s from the local community and other shareholders are
encouraged.
The success of the model is closely tied in with the profitability
of Global Beef operations, as it is this cornerstone that supports
community upliftment and development. This is not just another take
on cattle farming, but rather an integrated, single production
system, vertically integrated to offer the highest levels of
efficiency and quality control. Since there can be no
sustainability without profitability, anticipated threats to the
business are taken into account in the planning stages, such that
factors like drought and disease are almost totally eliminated.
