AXIS BIOLOGICAL INDICATORS

AXIS self contained biological idicators were developed to control steam, dry heat, ethylene oxide, plasma and formaldehyde sterilization process. Biological indicator contains bacterial spores on a filter paper carrier package within a plastic tube. Inside the tube there is a sealed-glass ampoule of specially-formulated culture medium containing a color indicator which turns to a dramatic color change when spores grow.

Axis biological indicators produces visual results within *4 hours at *0 +/- 2 0C ( steam, hydrogen peroxide or formaldehyde) or *8 hours at *7 +/- 20 C (ethylene oxide, dry heat and moist heat)

After the incubation, a color changes of the indicator media means a sterylization failure and the sterilizer or the sterilization conditions must be review. A positive control indicator ensures that the correct incubation conditions were met.

AXIS RAPID BIOLOGICAL INDICATORS

The innovative characteristic of this system is the rapid read out can be obtained thanks to the culture medium formulation that permits a rapid detection of a fluorescent product, genereted by the activity of the enzyme glucosidase that catalyzes the modyfication of a non fluorescent substrate. This enzyme is synthesised during the Bacillus atrophaeus y Geobacillus stearothermophilus spore germination. The fluorescent product generated by this enzyme can be detected with high sensibility in the incubator. 

The coloration of the culture medium allows reconfirmation of the result obtained with the reader at 3 or 4 hours respectively. After the incubation a color change of the indicator media to yellow indicates that the sterilization process failed. A positive control ensures that the incubation condition have been reached.

Axis biological indicators are certified under ISO ***1:***0 and ISO *3.**5:***3 systems.
