Montmorillonite is a flake-like mineral whose surface brings negative charge&#****2;and charge at edge brings positive charge resulted by ions like Al-O, Mg-O, Fe-O, etc. Dispersing in the water, organic solvent and other liquid, through the electrostatic attraction, edge-edge and edge-face link together to form frame structure (card structure) around the liquid. When montmorillonite reaches certain concentration, its frame structure will scattered throughout the whole container. The flexible material is called gel. According to the hydrophilic and lipophilic nature gel is divided into two kinds: inorganic gel and organic gel.
