Type*2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterised by high blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency. It is estimated that in the USA alone, almost *4 million people are diabetic (with an additional *7 million people being pre-diabetic); *0 percent of whom suffer from type*2 diabetes. Treatment of type*2 diabetes entails glycaemic control (i.e. maintaining ‘normal’ blood-sugar levels through diet, and exercise) and the use of antidiabetic drugs such as metformin, thiazolidinedione (rosiglitazone, pioglitazone), α-glucosidase inhibitors (acarbose and miglitol), meglitinides, and peptide analogues that can increase insulin levels. The published literature reports that clinical studies have shown that treatment with extracts from this plant significantly reduces blood glucose levels after the consumption of carbohydrates (P=0.**5 compared with placebo) in both control and diabetic patients, and significantly stabilises blood sugar levels by lowering post-meal blood sugar spikes (P=0.**1). In vitroand in vivostudies have shown that FormulaA significantly lowers blood-glucose levels and acts through inhibition of α-glucosidase enzymes.
