| Preparation | The anhydrous ethanol co-vaporized with diethyl phthalate and sodium metal is added dropwise to the mixture of diethyl malonate, carbon tetrachloride and magnesium, heated to start the reaction, and the temperature is controlled to smooth the reaction.
