Kola nut or cola nitida is also known as cola nut, cola
and African kola nut. Kola nut is the seed kernel of a large
African tree grown commercially. It is extremely popular in
the tropics as a caffeine containing stimulant. Key constituents
are caffeine, theobromine, tannis and phenolics. It also
contains phlobaphens, protein and starch. It is used in the
natural products (herbal medicine) industry, beverages and
confectioneries. It stimulates a weak heart, treat nervous
debility, acts as an aphrosidiac among other medicinal
uses.
