Orthosiphon stamineus, often known as Java tea, is an herb widely grown in tropical areas and used widely in the form of herbal tea. As it increases urine flow, it is most commonly used for bladder and kidney disorders, such as bacterial infections and kidney stones. Other applications include liver and gallbladder problems, gout and rheumatism. In multiple pharmacological investigations it was found that Java tea exhibits diuretic, hypouricemic, renal protective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, gastroprotective, anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-microbial, and anorexic activities.
