Fruit of Lycium barbarum L., in the family Solanaceae, is well-known in the traditional Chinese herbal medicine as a high value medicinal plant.Lycium barbarum polysaccharides(LBP)have been identified as one of the activeingredients responsible for biological activities. Polysaccharidesare isolatedfrom dried Lycium barbarum through the way ofboiling water extraction.Inastudy, *0 animals were divided into two groups: a nondiabetic control group (n=*0) and a diabetic group (n=*0). Diabetes was induced by a single injection of streptozotocin (*0 mg/kg BW;Sigma,USA) freshly dissolved in a 0.1mol/L citrate buffer (pH 4.5) into the intraperitoneum. The normal controlrats and the untreated diabetic control rats were only injected with the citrate buffer.
