Fat: The fat in flaxseed comes from the oil component of the seed and consists of *1% healthy, unsaturated, fat. The majority of fat in flaxseed is in the healthier, unsaturated, form with ****3% of that as polyunsaturated fatty acid and *8% as monounsaturated fatty acid.

Flax oil is a rich source of the essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is converted in our bodies to omega*3 fatty acids. These fatty acids are essential because they are necessary for human health but cannot be synthesized by our bodies

Though flax is a rich source of the ALA, the conversion to omega*3's is inefficient. In comparison, the conversion to omega*3's from the fatty acids found in salmon is much higher.
