Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose,
also known as hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, is a type of non-ionic
cellulose mixed ether. It is a semi synthetic, inactive,
viscoelastic polymer commonly used as a lubricant in ophthalmology,
or as an excipient or shaping agent in oral medicine.
Appearance: White or almost white fibrous or granular powder
Stability: Solids are flammable and incompatible with strong
oxidizing agents.
Used as a thickener, dispersant, binder, excipient, oil resistant
coating, filler, emulsifier, and stabilizer in the textile
industry. It is also widely used in industries such as synthetic
resins, petrochemicals, ceramics, papermaking, leather,
pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics.
Pharmaceutical industry: coating materials; Membrane material;
Control rate polymer materials for sustained-release formulations;
Stabilizer; Suspension aids; Tablet adhesive; Thickener.
Construction industry: As a water retaining agent and retarder for
cement mortar, it makes the mortar pumpable. When using mortar,
gypsum, putty powder, or other building materials as adhesives, it
can improve the applicability and extend the operational time. Used
for pasting ceramic tiles, marble, plastic decorations, pasting
reinforcing agents, and can also reduce the amount of cement used.
The water retention performance of HPMC prevents the slurry from
cracking due to drying too quickly after application, enhancing the
strength after hardening.
