Polyester, refers to a group of polymers derived from the condensation of polyol and an acid generally.Typically as polyethylene terephthalate (PET),Polybutylene terephthalate(PBT), poly aromatic esters and other linear thermoplastic resin.

Polyester system is better than alkyd system regarding weather resistance, gloss retention, and high hardness, good adhesion, it is a high-end coating, but the polyester system is not as easy in applying generally, so the choice of coating additives is very important.
Polyester can be divided into unsaturated polyester and saturated polyester. Saturated polyester is synthetic material that does not contain unsaturated bonds except benzene ring. Through the adjustment of formulations, such as excessive polyol, the result can be hydroxyl terminated polyester. If the acid excess, then the polyester is a carboxyl terminated. The most commonly used saturated polyester resin is containing terminal hydroxyl groups.
