Professor Sawat Wathujeekrit said that Nang Talung or Talung is the art of shadow play. It’s the folk performance in the Southern part of Thailand which use the Talung figure to narrating the story and company with the southern classical music. In the previous times, Talung is the play which brought into the royal palace by the King. On those periods, there are 2 kinds of plays which originally happen outside the royal. The 1st one is the play which use the human being to play and the 2nd one is the play which use the figures which imitate the way human being are; the dressing. And use the light to show the beautiful of the dressing. Talung figure is made from raw cowhide or raw buffalo hide. The pattern of each figure is different from the others. In the beginning, there is no colour in Talung figure; only the pattern is there to reflect the light from the lamp. The pattern of each figure will not be the same; it is according to style of each sculptor. Each sculptor will have their own way of expressing the delicate, liveliness of the figure.
