The use of miswak – the natural toothbrush.

Miswak (Salvadora Persica) – the so-called “chewing stick” (the literal translation of the Malay-called “Kayu Sugi”). The traditional use as a toothbrush, spread from the Middle East to South and Southeast Asia.

Common names: El Salvador, Miswak, miswak, Meswak, Siwak, Sivak, Sewak, Siwan, Peelu, Saw, Arak.

Now miswak has religious significance in Muslim nations, but the mention of it was even before Islam.

Miswak research conducted by WHO in 2003 showed that compared with conventional toothbrush and toothpaste, when used properly, a simple rod of the roots of Salvadora Persica is much more effective. A recent study of miswak report positive effects not only on the teeth and gums, but also on the immune system entirely.

The use of miswak strengthens the gums, prevent tooth decay, calms the nerves of the tooth and eliminates toothaches. In addition, the use of miswak refreshes your mouth, breath, polishes and bleaches the tooth enamel, improves appetite, positively affect the vocal cords, digestion and the entire gastrointestinal tract as a whole.

Brushing your teeth

Carefully clean the tip of the rod (0.5 – 1 cm) from the cortex. Cortex of miswak is soft and easy to clean with hands or tooth.

You should gently press on the purified rod tip with Your tooth for several times so that the fibers are split and turn the tip of the rod in the brush.

Now we can proceed to clean teeth. Do this like with a toothbrush. The difference is that the surface of usual brush is bigger than the Miswak’s brush (tooth cleaning at the beginning will take longer), but the most significant difference – there’s no need for toothpaste at all if You use Miswak.

Elements contained in the Miswak (now identified six major operating elements + fluorine), prevent cavities, cope with bacteria, with the restoration of acid-base balance, the removal of plaque and breath freshener (after brushing with Miswak there will be absolutely no smell. Miswak doesn’t leave its odor, like mint).

After application of the brush You should cut used fiber with scissors, making of brushes back rod. This makes Miswak the most hygienic cleaner, because bacteria from the mouth will not be collected between the fibers, and again hit in the mouth! Miswak should be kept in a bag to prevent drying.

It also makes the brush “camp”, ie You can take it with You everywhere and use it when necessary in all circumstances, because no pasta, and, thereafter, no mouthwash, brushing your teeth with Miswak makes the procedure available at any time and under any circumstances.

It also makes the brush “camp”, ie You can take it with You everywhere and use it when necessary in all circumstances, because no pasta, and, thereafter, no mouthwash, brushing your teeth with Miswak makes the procedure available at any time and under any circumstances. Although there is a perception that You can use the brush again without cutting it off after the first application (and even several times), we do not recommend this without adding additional natural antibacterial agents. Of course, you can wash the fiber of Miswak with water and leave until next time (it will be more sanitary than conventional wash with synthetic brush), but the active substances in the fibers will be not enough. The brush in this condition can be used as a natural toothbrush, for example, adding powder of blue or white clay, or a mixture of clay, chopped herbs, etc.

Massage and strengthening of the gums

Miswak is very beneficial to the gums, enhancing, and restoring them, removing the inflammatory processes.

Massage of the gums can be carried out independently from the need to clean the teeth. Fiber of “chewing sticks”, if You chew it :) the brush becomes very soft, in this state it’s a great stick of gum massager, not causing harm or pain, even the weak and sensitive gums, gradually strengthens gums. Thus You can treat bleeding of the gums, and various other inflammatory processes in the oral cavity.

Reserches have shown that after the application of Miswak antibacterial effect lasts for two days, protecting oral tissues from inflammation.

Polishing and whitening of the tooth enamel.

Reserches show that the substances contained in the Miswak also possess bleaching properties, which traditionally has been used successfully for thousands of years among the nations, long familiar with this wonderful plant. Currently, extracts of Miswak is used worldwide for whitening and cleaning of the teeth.
