Place the tourniquet: Place the tourniquet above the wound, away from the wound itself. Usually distal to the injured limb. Make sure the tourniquet does not go around the joint, which could interfere with blood flow.
Tighten: Gradually tighten the tourniquet until bleeding stops. Make sure the tourniquet is tight enough to apply pressure, but not so tight that it damages surrounding tissue or blood vessels.
