Ocean Harvest Technology Ltd. has created the world’s first wholly natural and fully sustainable feed ingredient formulas for the aquacultural and animal feed sectors. The formulations have been developed using a complex blend of seaweeds sustainably harvested from the oceans of the world.

Seaweeds have been used historically as a feed supplement, but only as single species of seaweed. Benefits from use of seaweed as feed supplements are well documented in many research publications. Different species of seaweed contain many different bioactive molecules. These bioactive ingredients are:

Lectins, phycobiliproteins, peptides and functional amino acids such as hydroxyproline

Fucoidan, laminarin, alginic acid, mannitol, carageenan, agars and other short chain oligosaccharides

Antioxidants, phenolic compounds and pigments

Sterols

Fatty Acids

Iodine

Bromophenols

Scientific evidence of the last decade has shown that these ingredients have antibiotic, antiviral, antimicrobial, mitogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-adhesion, ACE-inhibitory, antioxidant, anti-cancer and antithrombotic effects with immune-modulation and cytomodulatory effects.

In addition to these ‘bioactive’ molecules seaweeds are a rich source of vitamins and minerals and the right blend of seaweeds can replace most or all of the ‘synthetic’ sources of these ingredients that are used in aquatic and animal feeds.

Some of the ‘bioactive’ molecules have a very positive contribution to flavour and texture of the animal, and repeated organoleptic testing using a stringently designed test method has seen significant improvements in texture/flavour when Oceanfeed ™ is used in the diet.

Oceanfeed pig has been used in large research trials and have shown an improvement of FCE, leaner meat, better carcass quality and lower mortality rates in weaners. Tatse testing at Univeristy of Cork proved improved falvours and juiciness. Larger commercial use in production farms in Canada have demonstrated improved gut health (lower bad bacteria) lower mortality, *0% reduction of antibiotics, removal of Paylean, and improved growth and carcass quality. Due to the short chained fatty acids and olichosaccharides stimulate the butaric acid fermentation in hind gut and can replace the organic acids currently used.

Our pig formulation (a propriatary mix of specific macroalgae harvested from the shores of Ireland and Vietnam and cultivated in tanks in Ireland is used at  only 0.5% incorporation in pig formulations.

The product can be supplied as powder or pellets.
