Product Specification

Product Description

Olive trees were discovered in Eastern Mediterranean initially, where Syria is now, and then were transplanted to Europe, to countries like Spain, Greece, and Italy and so on. As the place of origin of olive trees, Syria has the best natural conditions to make olives grow there, and to ensure the best quality of olive oil.

The oldest tree known to man, the botanical origins of the olive tree are not known for certain though the Oleaster Olea Sylvestris which still grows wild in North Africa, Portugal, Southern France, Italy and by the Black and Caspian Seas is thought to be a likely candidate. Genetic and archaeological studies show that olives have been around since the very first stirrings of ancient civilizations in the eastern Mediterranean with Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus and Crete the earliest centers of olive cultivation, dating as far back as ***0 B.C.

From there, olive cultivation later made its way down to Greece, North Africa, Italy and other Mediterranean countries where it quickly became an integral part of life. Olive cultivation played a key role in the development of all these ancient civilizations providing food, oil, soap, wood and, as a tradable commodity, wealth. A symbol of peace, wisdom and victory—the crowning wreaths for winners of the Olympic Games were made from wild olive branches—olives were closely linked to diet, religion, medicine (the therapeutic properties of olive oil were known to Hippocrates, progenitor of the Hippocratic oath) and the growth of stable society. The importance of olive cultivation is abundantly clear from the frequent appearance of olives in many forms used in decoration, pottery, walls, art and ancient coins
