Palm kernel is the edible part of the oil palm tree used in making palm kernel oil.
Palm kernel oil is used in commercial cooking because of its ability to remain stable at high cooking temperature and can be stored longer than other vegetable oils.
It is packed with myristic and lauric fatty acids and therefore suitable for the manufacturing of soaps and detergents.
Because palm kernel oil resists higher cooking temperature and upon storage, it is used for commercial fried products such as doughnuts, ramen noodles, potato chips and French fries.
The pulp left after oil is rendered from the kernel is formed into palm kernel cake used either as high protein feed for cattle or burned in boilers to generate electricity. Palm kernel oil is also a good food for the hair and skin.
