Who We Are
Autrol America is headquartered is Elgin, Chicago, and our parent company is in South Korea.
Autrol is a microprocessor based 2 wire smart transmitter company with HART as the standard communication protocol. Autrol manufactures Differential, Gauge, Absolute, Level, Pressure transmitters as well as Temperature Transmitters.

Autrol transmitters are also certified and approved for installing in nuclear applications. In fact, these transmitters were first manufactured for the *3 Nuclear reactors in South Korea. Autrol has not yet started selling transmitters in nuclear applications in North America.

The Autrol Product Difference
Key features that differentiate Autrol from the others -
1. One product fits all - Most manufacturers market their products by positioning one model as less/more smart than the other. Whereas Autrol has one product to fit all. E.g. Autrol transmitters technically match the capability of the highest end Competition model with the price lower than their lowest end model. That means while Autrol is competing on the price levels of the lower end models of Emerson & Yokogawa. Autrol is not compromising performance or technical specification that has been set for this industry. Autrol provides the technical specifications of highest end models. When you purchase a transmitter, you get everything: best Accuracy, best Turndown ratio etc.
2. Easy to use 2 push s technology. Unlike with most other manufacturers, with Autrol, you dont need any hand held device or Pactware to configure the transmitter. All features / configuration changes are accessed through the 2 push s. This includes re-ranging, zero trim, sq root function etc. Slowly, most major manufacturers are moving towards push s; however they still have reservations / issues. Some cannot be opened in hazardous areas because the s are inside the housing or behind the screen or in most cases they do not have full functionality. They still require a hand held to access all features. There is no manufacturer having full functionality via 2 s except Autrol.

COST When you compare Autrol with the biggest manufacturer of pressure transmitters, Autrol transmitters technically match the capability of the highest end Competition models with the price lower than their lowest end model. What is SMART and how does AUTROL differentiate from Competition
The SMARTness of the transmitter does not lie in the communication protocols, but the temperature characterization, that is a patented process of any manufacturer. The Characterization process is the heart of the SMART transmitter. Very few companies in the world have the ability to do in-house characterization. We Do.
Autrol developed a patented in-house characterization process. That is what defines the Stability, the Turndown, the Accuracy and other features that sets Autrol apart and are comparable to an Emerson or a Yokogawa, if not better.
Where Autrol differentiate: If you look at Emerson (or any other key manufacturer), they have come out with different models. They have the ***1 model, ***1 series, and the ***8 series. And they had the ***1 before. They are all classified as SMART transmitters. But they market their products by positioning one model as less/more smart than the other i.e. the ***8 is less smarter that the ***1. ***1 is also less smart than the ***1. The ***1S is better than all other.
Along with different models, Emerson has differentiated products at different price entry points. If Emerson is dealing with an established customer, who is willing to pay the premium price for a ***1, they will easily charge them high. BUT if Emerson is in a competitive situation, they will probably never talk about a ***1. They will probably talk about a ***8 or a ***1.
The question then becomes: Since they have reduced their price, does the customer really understand what he is getting less for that price? By providing the ***8 or ***1, which are the lower-end/cheaper models, what is it that they are not giving to the customer?
Emerson decided to cut down their price to compete in the market by coming out with different standards for characterization. That means if you look at their ***8 SMART transmitter, it is not characterized for the full Turn-Down. It does not have a **0:1 turn down; it has a *0:1 turndown, and is not available for the high accuracy off the rack.
While Emerson has retained the concept of Smartness or Characterization, they are doing a very limited characterization i.e. instead of a 9 hour characterization process for over ****0 points, like we do and are normally required; they do characterization for only a few minutes over only a few hundred points.
The AUTROL STATEGY: One product fits All
Whether you order a ***0 series or a ***0 series, Autrol offers a full ****0 point characterization for every model, that has gone through the 9 hour characterization process and yet Autrol competes on the price levels of a lower end Emerson & Yokogawa etc.
Although Autrol is competing on the price levels of the lower end models of Emerson & Yokogawa , Autrol is not compromising the performance or technical specification that have been set for this industry and we provide the technical specifications of highest end models. That is Autrols true value proposition.

When comparing, you may say that Autrol is only about X% lower than Emerson or Yokogawa, but when you ask them the model, it turns out to be the lower end model. The comparison is not apples to apples. What are we giving you is what Emerson and Yokogawa is not. When you compare their higher end model to Autrol, for the same features, you realize the big cost difference and how Autrol is better.

With Emerson and others, even the LCD in their transmitter is an additional charge; Better Turn down is an additional charge; Better accuracy or available on a more expensive model is an additional charge. Even to do a zero trim, you need to buy a hand held configurator.
Autrol decided on a simple strategy of one product to fit all. When you pay for a transmitter, you get everything: best Accuracy, best Turndown ratio, all features / configuration changes accessed through the 2 push s including re-ranging, zero trim etc. You don't need anything else, no Hand held or a Pactware. Autrol is aware that few specific instances might require control / management via hand held / DTM, therefore Autrol has invested in the required interfaces / DTM's.
Slowly, most major manufacturers are moving towards push s, however they still have issues. Some cannot be opened in hazardous areas because the s are inside the housing or behind the screen or in most cases they do not have full functionality. They still require a Hand held to access all features. There is no manufacturer having full functionality via 2 s except Autrol.
That said, there will be only 1% of the cases where a Pactware or Hand held will be required as a solution, therefore Autrol offers DTM at a minimal cost.
Autrol always prefers the strategy of Walk the Walk, instead of just Talk the Talk. When you install a demo piece at the customer site they will know the advantage of 2 technology hands on.
