Recombinant human albumin powder enhance cell culture performance

Human serum albumin (HSA) is an important supplement in cell culture medium. It is an important carrier of hormone, lipid and nutrition in the cell culture media. HSA in the cell culture medium can provide the nutrions needed for cell growth, increase the viscosity of the medium, provide a mechanical protection for cells. Many commercial companies are developing animal and human-free media that are based on safety considerations for the production.

Using the rice endosperm specific expression platform, Healthgen Biotech produced the recombinant human albumin (OsrHSA), which is animal component free, can avoid the prions or virus contaminants.

The recombinant human albumin (OsrHSA) purity is higher than *9% as determined by SDS-PAGE. Different batches of OsrHSA presented in SDS­PAGE visualized by silver staining, showing a single band at *6.5kDa. The OsrHSA has very good batch consistency, which can avoid the batches difference and improve the repeatability of cell culture and experiment results.

In the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) culture, the OsrHSA concentration is 1g/L. The chart indicated that the OsrHSA has equivalent performance to promote MSCs growth compared with plasma derived HAS. In addition, the promotion of cell growth were comparable in there batches of OsrHSA. The results showed that OsrHSA performed as well as pHSA to enhance cell culture performance, and thus can effectively replace pHSA in cell culture media.

Using the OsrHSA to replace the plasma HSA in the cell culture to enhance cell culture performance, there are such advantages:

• Avoid the serum quality changes from different batches, improve the repeatability of cell culture and experiment results.
• Avoid the toxic effects and serum-derived contamination from serum to cells.
• Avoid the impact of serum components in the experimental study.
• Benefit to the differentiation of cultured cells in vitro.
• Improvde the target proteins expression level and make the cell products easily purified.
