The RTTS Packer is a full opening, hook wall type packer which can segregate bidirectional pressure designed for using in testing, treating, and squeeze cementing operations. The full opening permits pumping large volumes of fluid with a minimum pressure drop, and allows the passage of a through tubing type perforating gun. This helps the tool beusedfor multiple operations with one trip to the downhole, such as perforating, testing, treating, squeezing, reperforate, etc.There is a bypass valve connected with the upper part of RTTS packer. Generally, it is used withRTTS circulating valve or hydraulic circulating valve. To avoid stuck, the RTTS safety joint is usually added.

The RTTS packers are allocated different drift diameter gauges and packer elements which could be selected before using.

 

Each size of RTTS packer includes afriction block,a J-slot mechanism, mechanical slips, packing elements, and hydraulic hold down mechanism which stop the packer movingupwardsunder the strength of negative pressure. To make the packer bear larger pressure, longer mechanical hold down body and more hydraulic slips could be used. If no negative pressure, the body could be replacedwith a test joint.

When descend the RTTS packer into well, place casting lug in the locked position in the drag block sleeve. When the tool is run slightly below the desired setting position, pick up tool to setting position and rotated pipe several turns to right(on bottom, only 1/2 turn is required).Holding right torque on pipe, slack the pipe weight off until mechanical slips set. Meanwhile, the packer element is compressed against the casing to isolate the annular from the test zone. The hydraulic hold down mechanism can stop the packer moving upwardsunder the strength of negative pressure.

To offset the packer, the circulating valve should be opened first to balance the pressure above and below the packer elements. At this time,lift the tool stringtooffset the packer and the casting lug will slid to the top of short J-slot.
