· Non-woven surgical drapes are made from synthetic materials such as nylon, rayon and polyester, held together with cellulose fibers. Non-woven surgical drapes were created to approach all the problems that arose with woven surgical drapes. These types of drapes provide an excellent barrier, a low level of linting and are tear resistant. They are usually disposed after one use.

Function:

Isolating dirty, contaminated areas from clean areas.

 2. Barrier

Preventing fluid penetration.

 3. Sterile Field

Creating a sterile operative environment by aseptic application of sterile materials.

 4. Sterile Surface

Creating a sterile surface on the skin which acts as a barrier to preventskin flora from migrating to the incision site.

 5. Fluid Control

Channeling and collecting body and irrigation fluids.
