Cylindrical fenders has ideal round shape for ship-to-ship operation with different bow flares or flat-sided vessels. So, cylindrical fenders are often used as the primary pushing fender on the bow or stern of tug boat. Cylindrical rubber fender can be easily mounted by the longitudinal chain throw fender centre, supplemented by webbing straps or chains
 fitted in grooves provided therein. The ends of rubber fender can be tapered.

M & W type fenders, and Key hole fenders are often used to as the pushing fenders. These three kind rubber fenders can be curved around most hull shapes to provide large contact surfaces for low hull pressures. Their grooved surfaces also can provide exceptional grip.

 D type fender, Square and Rectangular fenders are often used for tugs, barges, workboats and pilot boats as the side belting and protective fenders against heavy rubbing, brushing forms during escort duties and when coming alongside. D-section and Square fenders have circular bore, or D-bore. These rubber fenders display a higher energy absorption capacity, thus minimizing deface contact.
