Most  automotive  turbocharger  have  a wastefate, which  allows the use of a  smaller  turbocharger to reduce  lag  while  preventing  it from spinning  too  quickly  at  high  engin  speeds  the  wastegate  is  a valve that  allows  the  exhaust to  bypass the  turbine blades.the wastegate sense  the  boost  presure,if  hte presure  gtes  too  high,it  could  be indicator  that  the  the  turbin  is  spinning  tooo  quickly,so  the  wastegat  by  passs  some  of  the exhaust  around  the  tubine blades, allowing the blaeds to slow down.a larger turbocharger can provide lots of boost  at  high  engine  speeds,but   may  haave  bad  turbo  lag because  of  how  long  it takes  to  accelerate  its  heavier  tubine  and compressor. Luckily,there  are  the  wastegate  overcome  this  problems.
