The Visionaries of Creative
Action for Liberation & Progress (VICALP), Registered as a
society in ***5 is a grass-root based NGO working in Gajapati,
Kandhamal, Jajpur and Jharsuguda districts of Odisha. The
organization was founded by and is staffed with members/workers who
are basically from tribal and dalit villages/communities in the
area of engagement. After over a decade of experience working for
various people’s organisations, local/Indian NGOs and international
NGOs in the region, VICALP's team came together in ***5 to
utilize this experience in the interest of adivasis, dalits and
poor communities through a process of close cooperation and village
based action. While processes of critical mobilization began in the
early ***0s, tangible initiatives to address livelihood concerns
commenced in ***7.
VICALP has initiated the
collective marketing of small holding farmers of Kandhamal
District, Odisha who concentrate on Turmeric production. The
organic spices of Kandhamal, which are natural and produced
organically, could be by organic default. It is heartening to note
that as per the analytical report by the Spices Board laboratory
and Skal laboratory, they are free from chemical or microbial
hazards. There are about ***6 farmers enrolled as members under
VICALP and ***0 more under the process of enrolment. The farmers
produce almost **0 Metric Tons of Turmeric every year. This is the
third year of VICALP to induce people for collective marketing of
turmeric which slowly made them Register as a Producers’ Company.
In a couple of months the registration process will be
complete.
In this regard VICALP is
willing and ready to export the finest traditional organic turmeric
to some reputed companies who see value in our product. We hope
