The quality of the fuel used can have a significant impact on the reliability and the life of the boiler.Off specification pellets can contaminate stocks of good material and maybe difficult to disposeof.The use of contaminated material can lead to breaches of emissions and waste regulations as well aslong term damage to the heating system.The European standards have been developed based on the work of CENs TC**5 solid biofuelscommittee.As a minimum the fuel should comply with the following specification acc. to OENORM M ***5and ENplus Class A1.
     

 
 
 
 

A European standard for wood fuel pellets was introduced in ***1 EN ******2 the specifications for premium wood pellets are:

 
  • Particle size: 6mm
  • Moisture content: less than *0%
  • Calorific value: less than 4.7kWh/kg
  • Ash content: less than 1% (low), less than 3% (standard) or less than 6% (high); to be clearly labelled
  • Bulk density: less than **0 kg/m
  • Sulfur content: less than **0 ppm
  • Chlorine: less than: **0ppm
  • Only additives: lignin and trace amounts of vegetable oil as a die lubricant
