Bonny Light Crude Oil (BLCO) is a high grade of Nigerian Crude Oil with high API gravity (Low Specific Gravity). It is produced in the Niger Delta basin and named after the prolific region around the city of Bonny - an Island in Rivers State, Nigeria. The very low sulfur content of Bonny Light Crude amkes it a highly desired grade for its low corrosiveness to refinery infastructure and the lower environmental impact of its bi-products in refinery effluent. Other grades of Nigerian crude oil are the Qua Iboe Crude Oil, Forcados Crude Oil and Brass River Crude Oil. the Cabinda crude oil is a common grade of crude oil produced in Angola. However, the Bonny Light Crude Oil is in high demand especially by American and European refineries. It is therefore a major source of income for the oil-rich nation. The Government of Nigeria, through NNPC (Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) cordinates the affairs of the oil industiries in Nigeria, being a major source of revenue for the oil-rich nation.
