Reagent kit HIV AGAT is designed for a simultaneous detection of antibodies to HIV I(0), HIV II, antigen p*4 HIV in human blood serum (plasma) by using ELISA technique. The ELISA HIV AGAT reagent kit allows to detected mutant forms of HIV I.
 The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) belongs to the family of retroviruses (Retroviridae), the genus of lentiviruses (lentiviruses). The name lentiviruscomes from the Latin lente slow. This name reflects one of the features of the viruses of this group, namely, the slow and uneven speed of development of the infectious process in a icroorganism. Lentiviruses are also characterized by a long incubation period.
 After HIV infection, the chronological sequence of the appearance in the serum (plasma) of specific markers identifying the infection is as follows: viral RNA, p*4 antigen and antibodies against HIV. The exact point in time when viral RNA, p*4 antigen, or antibodies can be detected depends on several factors: research methodology, individual response of the body, etc. Viral RNA can be detected using PCR in the very initial stage of the disease, p*4 antigen 2 weeks after infection and remain in quantitative concentrations for **5 months. New generation methods for detecting specific antibodies to HIV provide reliable results in the majority of those infected approximately **4 weeks after the invasion (serologically latent period when the presence of HIV infection cannot be detected by antibody tests). Methods for detecting the p*4 antigen shorten this period by **2 weeks. Detection of HIV infection at an early stage allows early initiation of specific antiretroviral therapy, counseling and timely initiation of anti-epidemic measures.
Scope of usage is in vitro diagnostics.
