Having been used in ancient Chinese and Indian medicine for centuries, Tribulus Terrestris caught the eye of the rest of the world in the mid '*0s when Olympic athletes claimed that it helped improve their performance. Since then, Tribulus Terrestris has become popular as a supplement for boosting athletic performance and providingsupport for sexual functions. It has also garnered interest for its potential benefits to kidney health.

Tribulus Terrestris is also known as "puncture vine" or "devil's thorn" *- but don't let these names scare you away! This herbaceous plant may be a pain to step on, but it contains many useful components, including steroidal glycosides, steroidal saponins, and other bioactive compounds.

Studies suggest that one particular protein in Tribulus Terrestris may be beneficial to kidney health and may provide protection to bodily cells.

Tribulus Terrestris has also been found to contain androgens, and it mayelevate some sexual hormone levels.

Tribulus Terrestris is a perennial, floweringplant of the Zygophyllaceae family. While it thrives in warmer climates, even in the desert, this thorny herb can also grow as an annual in cooler regions. The hairy stems of the Tribulus Terrestris plant branch out from the crown and stay low to the ground, growing anywhere from four inches to three feet long.

Delicate-looking Tribulus Terrestris leaves consist of a thin stem with many small leaflets. The plant's bright yellow, five-petaled blossoms are quite small, being only 1/8 to 3/8 inches in diameter. One week after blooming, the flowers are succeeded by small fruits that bear long thorns or "horns." These fruits can be easily separated into four or five "nutlets" and can cause serious harm if stepped on.
