Description

Propiconazole is a broad spectrum fungicide with both systemic and foliar effects.  First developed in ***9, Propiconazole is both a curative fungicide and a preventative fungicide.  Fungal diseases shown to be effected by propiconazole include a large variety of Ascomycetes (such as Erysiphe graninis, Mycosphaerella spp. Sclerotinia spp, Psuedocercosporella herpotrichoides orTapesia yallundae as it is now known,  Rhynchosporium secali,  Pyrenophora tere, Leptosphaeria nodorum,  and Rhizoctonia spp) as well as Basidiomycetes (such as Puccinia spp) and Fungi Imperfecti pathogens (like Septoria spp, Cercospora spp and Monilinia spp.).  Propiconazole is approved for use on grasses grown for seed, sod farm and utility turf, crops (like corn/maize, wheat, rice, rye, sugar cane, sugar beets, sorghum and oats), ornamentals, fruit (banana; stone fruits – apricots, prunes, plums, nectarines and peaches) and nuts (coffee, peanuts, pecan and almond).  It can also be used to treat and prevent diseases in wood and wood products.  Propiconazole acts by binding with and inhibiting the action of the enzyme **-alpha-demethylase, preventing the demethylation of a precursor to ergosterol, a major component of fungal cell walls, thereby preventing growth.  Propiconazole can be applied as a dust, a wettable powder, an emulsifiable concentrate, a flowable concentrate, and a liquid soluble concentrate.
