Sodium hydroxide is also used in manufacturing of sodium salts and detergents, pH regulation, and organic synthesis. It is used in the drilling mud to increase alkalinity in bentonite mud systems, to increase the mud viscosity, and to neutralise any hydrogen sulfide and geological formation as drilling progresses.
