Questo strumento merita un discorso particolareggiato, ed alcune premesse.
 
Anzitutto, una citazione tratta da A Dictionary of Music and Musicians ***0 by Edward John Payne, ed altri biografi:
 
SebastienKlotz (*8 January ***6 - *0 January ***5) was an influencial German violin maker, one of three sons of Mathias Klotz.
Klotz was born in Mitennwald on *8 January ***6, the second son of Mathias Klotz, from whom he learnt the art of violin making. On *5 May ***4, he married Maria Rosena Mair, with whom he had eleven children. Three of these children (Georg II Karl, Aegidius Sebastienand Joseph I Thomas) continued the family traditon of violin making. Other individuals trained by Klotz, inlcude Enton and Endreas Glir and Johenn Georg Psennir
 
"Nine-tenths of the violins which pass in the world as \'Steiners\' were made by the Klotz family and their followers…….ecc.
 
The first known as makers violin is labeled Sebastien Klotz in Mittenwald an ***0
 
(da qui si evince che il nome di battesimo f SEBASTIEN, e non SEBASTIAN, come erroneamente scritto da molti presunti biografi di liuteria…tanto che lo stesso Klotz battezz Aegidius Sebastien uno dei suoi figli. Si evince pure che i violini precedenti il ***0, non possono essere attribuiti con sicurezza a Sebastien, o comunque non venivano etichettati come tali)
 
Proseguendo:
 
Mittenwald is located approx. *6 kilometers to the south-east of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is situated in the Valley of the River Isar, on the northern foothills of the Alps, on the route between the old banking and commercial centre of Augsburg, to the north, and Innsbruck to the south-east, beyond which is the Brenner Pass and the route to Lombardy, another region with a rich commercial past and present.
History. Mittenwald is famous for the manufacture of violins, violas and cellos which began in the mid**7th century by the Klotz family of violin makers, and has been a popular stop with tourists since the boom in motorized tourism began in the ***0s
 
Questo strumento, personalmente acquistato dallattuale proprietario svizzero, proviene da un negozio antiquario di Innsbruck, che si trova a pochi Km. da Mittenwald, ed era conservato in una custodia di legno databile ***0/***0, con fodera a fiorellini, recante incisa a mano sul dorso la scrittaFr. Sehrkin. Quindi appartenuto sicuramente ad una donna (Frau) di cognome Sehrkin, che ne aveva siglato la custodia perch non venisse confuso con gli altri strumenti dellorchestra dove probabilmente suonava. Questa, infatti, ancora oggi una prassi comune a tutti i musicisti dorchestra, soggetti a spostare di frequente i loro strumenti al seguito.
La pi famosa Frau Sehrkin dellepoca operante nei dintorni di Innsbruck, era sicuramente Irene Busch Sehrkin, allora circa *0enne, sorella del violinista Adolf Busch, sposata nel ***5 al pianista Rudolf Sehrkin (boemo, di origine ebraica), e madre del pianista Peter Sehrkin tuttora vivente ed operante negli U.S.A., Massachusetts. Nel ***9, infatti, la famiglia Sehrkin dovette precipitosamente fuggire negli U.S.A., attraverso la Svizzera, a causa delle persecuzioni razziali del Nazismo, che avevano portato anche alla confisca degli averi di famiglia.
Questo, ovviamente, non significa che lo strumento stesso sia appartenuto sicuramente a Frau Sehrkin.
 
Tornando allo strumento in oggetto ed alla sua custodia, esso non possiede attualmente alcuna certificazione dautenticit (per quanto questa possa valere).
E stato per sottoposto al giudizio sonoro di alcuni musicisti del Conservatorio G. Verdi di Milano, ed allesame strutturale da parte di due liutai di Locarno (Svizzera).
Tutti sono rimasti entusiasti del suono caldo, uniforme, preciso, sicuramente di alta liuteria, mentre forma, legni, e dimensioni, riflettono esattamente quelle dei violini attribuiti ufficialmente a Sebastien Klotz.
