Aluminium Trihydrate (ATH): is a flame retardant and smoke suppressant & an economical resin extender.
USP: The performance of ATH is based on the size of the particles, or also many times referred as the surface area of material wiz based on particle size again.
Effect of Particle Size on Performance: Fine particle size makes the product act as reinforcement in polymer matrix which results in better physical properties such as tensile strength, modulus etc. As compared to virgin compounds or when compared with compounds with coarse ATH. Good anti-settling characteristics, resulting in uniform dispersion.
Effect of Surface Area on Performance: Finer particle size results in more surface area of particle which helps in better performance as the Flame Retardant, by higher & prompt release of water molecules, which may also obstruct the gas-phase chain-reaction oxidation.
Thus the pricing is also based on the Particle Size of the ATH material.
