Since the end of the last century, rotary-type saws developed in Russia have become widespread in metallurgy for cutting hot section steel billets. Rotary-type saws are used to cut workpieces with a diameter of up to **0 mm and profile products. A series of saws were developed, differing in the design of the blade drive - belt RR (РР) and, later, gear РЗ and РЗМ with cutting blade diameters from ***0 to ***0 mm. More than *0 cutting units with rotary-type saws are operated in Russia and abroad, including Japan, the USA and other countries.
In rotary-type saws, compared to traditional saws, feed rates are
increased by an order of magnitude (up to **2 m/s). This was
achieved as a result of a complex of studies covering cutting
conditions, tool design and saw mechanisms. Let us explain that the
tooth of the rotary-type saw blade is in contact with hot metal for
thousandths of a second and has time to cool down before it comes
into contact with the metal again. The thickness of the removed hot
metal shavings is 0.**1.2 mm. In traditional saws, the cutting work
is largely spent on the friction that accompanies the cutting
process. In rotary-type saws, the friction remains the same, and
the deformation forces, although they grow, are within the limits
accessible to blades made of carbon steels with small additions of
chromium and vanadium (for example, AISI L2/GOST 9ХФ, AISI L3/GOST
*5Х, GOST *5ХМФ, EN *1CrV4), with satisfactory durability
A feature of rotary-type saws is the need to perform cutting work
at high speeds in a short time with significant amounts of energy
required for cutting large-section workpieces. To implement the
cutting process in rotary-type saws, the planetary motion of the
rotating cutting disk with feed to the cut in the mode of starting
the carrier for one revolution is adopted. The energy reserve
required for cutting is accumulated in the flywheel accumulator of
the cutting blade rotation drive from a separate motor, and the
supply to the cut is carried out from the carrier drive
motor.

the requirements for the auxiliary equipment of the cutting unit
are shown below in Table 1.
