Sustainable Agriculture Should Be Promoted Worldwide, UN Stressed

The sustainable agriculture practices are strengthening their prevalence in the industry with the aim of getting shifted from conventional agriculture arrangements towards sustainability.

The key obligation is to patch up the entire system of global agriculture, as stated by the head of food and agriculture organization (FAO) of United Nations. The complete transformation from conventional agriculture structure can only be possible by reducing a considerable quantity of chemicals and water.

During the 24th session of the Committee on Agriculture (COAG) held in Rome, the Director-General Jose Graziano da silva invited to deliver a speech on paradigm shift in Global agriculture attitude, stating that if merely rationalizing the level of chemicals and water would might have driven the global agriculture system towards sustainability for a lasting track. Mr. Silva further claimed that, “the nations should not be dependent on input-intensive model (using high chemicals and water) just to enhance the production”. The precedent elucidations have already depicted their perimeters.

Addressing to certain alternatives such as biotechnology, agro ecology, exploitation of heritably modified organisms and climate smart agriculture, Jose Graziano stressed on the point that the world’s food production should be augmented by 60 percent by 2050, so as to fulfill the anticipated food consumption of world’s population that would stand more than 9 billion.

He continued sharing his thoughts that, “We need to explore these alternatives using an inclusive approach based on science and evidence, not on ideologies”

The committee on Agriculture  (COAG) was founded in 1971, with over 100 members under its ranks, the purpose of biennial meeting is to point out various sorts of agriculture issues for instance, food safety, soil management, family farming, agriculture legacy systems, water governance and green farming.

The leader of Dominican Republic also delivered an important speech to the committee by addressing and emphasizing the state’s support the theory that food is a fundamental right of every citizen and claiming his own state even stands at the brink of passing law establishing.
