China claims that it has created an important construction of hydropower dam on the Brahmaputra, mainly termed as Yarlung Zangbo, in Tibet.

This major development has gathered the clouds of threat on both India and Bangladesh for potential severe floods events and likewise more of such instances such as landsliding that may hurt or knock back the lives of millions of people.

India has been raising its concerns on the development of Brahmaputra’s Dam since the starting of the project, considered as the powerful Himalayan Rivers, within the upstream areas of Tibet. However, China has consistently reacted over the Indian concerns by claiming that its plans were restricted to run-off-the-river dams focused on generating electricity, which posed little danger.

It seems that Indian officials have been persuaded by the responses given from Beijing but in real scenario, China was truly engaged in the gigantic development project of Brahmaputra’s hydropower Dam, which would disturb the flow of rivers into Arunachal Pradesh and various other areas of north eastern region in India, said private sources.

China has duly confirmed that their latest massive hydropower Dam has become operational on last Sunday to some extent. Beijing ensures that the Dam will certainly prove to be supportive for connecting the rich water resources of the Yarlung Zangbo River to eradicate the energy crisis problem from the region.

The first section of the $1.5 billion Zangmu Hydropower Station, which is over 3,300m above sea level on the "roof of the world", went into operation Sunday afternoon. Five other sections are due for completion no later than next year, it said.

The government of China declared it as a massive project which will still require not more than one year for it's final touch. The dam has now the capability to facilitate the region by generatring 2.5 billion KW hours of electricity on annual basis, said officials.

The official information reveals that per-capital demand of electricity was a bit above than 1,000 kilowatt-hours, which is far lower than one-third of the average electricity of consumption in China, reported by Xinhua news agency. China has originated number of projects on Brahmaputra region among which, Zangmu is the project that aim to generate around 2,000MW of hydro power. However, many environmental experts were against the project due to negative impacts over the eco-system of Tibet region.

India recently said it will commission extensive studies to study the impact of dam building and behavioral changes in the Brahmaputra. But experts ask if such delayed studies would be useful in the face of Chinese plans to build four more dams on the river.

India has recently announced that it will form a commission who will conduct a critical study over the effects of constructing dam and potential climatic changes in the Brahmaputra. However, the analysts argue if such post- studies would actually be reasonable and helpful to stop the intentions of Chinese plans for building the next four major developments of dams on the river.
